The Wanderer / The Rubbish Picker are personas who actualize the pragmatic aesthetic, forgotten spaces and unseen actions from the environment. Inspired in part by the Caspar David Friedrich painting Wanderer above the Sea Fog (1818), which reveals humanity’s insignificance and vulnerability in relationship to the power and majesty of nature. The contemporary persona conjures the opposing senses of awesomeness and of dread when facing found, built and used things within the civilized landscape – such wonderful things with so much waste.
